Rescuing food at Lakelands Shopping Centre
Lakelands Shopping Centre and SecondBite have partnered to rescue food from the centre’s retailers and distribute it to the less fortunate in the Lakelands community. SecondBite already collects and redistributes food from Coles supermarkets all around the country and the Lakelands Centre Management team wanted to extend the program to the rest of the centre.
“We are delighted to give our retailers the opportunity to be part of such a great initiative. It’s a no-brainer for us to support the local community and minimise wastage for the centre. The long-term environmental benefit from this program is unquantifiable and we are grateful for organisations such as SecondBite and Feed it Forward to be there and working with us on this initiative,” said Lakelands Shopping Centre Manager.
The initiative aims to redistribute food which cannot be sold anymore by Lakelands retailers, but is safe to eat. The food is collected daily from the centre by SecondBite representatives and redistributed to our local community through Feed it Forward Maori Stylz WA.
